FULTON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway faces the possibility of higher traffic due to lower water levels in the Mississippi River.

"I know it's affected in the past a couple times as we've increased the volume of traffic up and down the Tenn-Tom," said George Williams of Midway Marina.

Midway Marina is located on the Tenn-Tom just outside of Fulton.

The marina hosts more than 100 boats and also many who live on houseboats and yachts.

Jake Palmer is one of those who lives there and says he doesn't mind seeing more waterway traffic.

"The people who sail, it will get a little crowded at some points trying to stay in the channel, but for the most part, it will be all right," said Palmer. "I mean, it's mostly people fishing and riding around in recreational boats probably is what's going to happen, but it will be all right. The more the merrier really."

Some experts have said it won't be until the middle of next month until the Mississippi River's water levels get back to normal.
