GRENADA, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Grenada County man died after a van he was driving collided head-on with an 18-wheeler hauling pulp wood Thursday morning.

A Mississippi Highway Patrols spokesperson tells WTVA.com Michael Conley, 52, of Gore Springs died at the scene of the accident on Highway 8, 12 miles east of Grenada.

Troopers say it appears Conley had backed out of a private drive and onto the highway.

The log truck, driven by Michael Gardner, 55, of Pontotoc, was traveling west on the roadway and Gardner attempted to avoid hitting the van.

Both vehicles collided head-on.

Gardner was transported by ambulance to the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with moderate injuries.

The accident remains under investigation.
