GRENADA, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Water Valley man charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty plead no contest in a Yalobusha County court Tuesday.

In February, Hope Animal Sanctuary in Grenada took in 17 malnourished horses from the property of Oli Jordan.

Director Doll Stanley says Jordan's pasture originally held 25 horses.

Jordan was fined $100 on each count of animal cruelty. Stanley says he will also have to pay approximately $3,500 in court costs and is sentenced to 50 days of incarceration.

Stanley says Hope Animal Sanctuary was also present at the arraignment of a Cascilla man who pled guilty to six counts of failure to provide adequate and wholesome food and water to his donkeys. He received a fine of $100 on each count, court costs of $64 per count, and a suspended 30-day jail sentence.

Hope Animal Sanctuary is in need of aid for the 19 horses and one donkey that survived in these two cases. Those offering help can contact Hope Animal Sanctuary at 662-809-4483.
