GRENADA, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Grenada County timber company has announced it will expand its operations. Fly Timber will invest more than $6 million and create 30 new jobs at its operations in Grenada.
Officials announced the expansion Tuesday morning.
Fly Timber has been in operation for 32 years and is a hardwood-only sawmill.
The company cuts mats for the oil and gas industry and trim-grade and floor-grade hardwood for use in residential and commercial construction.
Company officials say workers will also begin cutting railroad crossties when the expansion is complete.
The Mississippi Development Authority and Grenada County provided assistance to rehabilitate and add on to a rail spur the company will use to ship the crossties to a treatment facility.
Once the expansion is completed, Fly Timber will employ 80 workers.
