WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) -- Yokohama Tires has selected the man they say will help with the design and construction of a new plant near West Point.

Company officials say Alan Easome was promoted from senior director of operations with Yokohama Tire to senior director of new plant development.

In the new position, Easome will jointly oversee the commercial tire plant that will be built in Clay County with Yokohama Rubber Company, Ltd.

Earlier this week, Yokohama officials joined state and local leaders to officially announce the plant would be located on the megasite north of West Point.

The manufacturing facility will make truck and bus tires and is expected to begin operations in October of 2015.

It is initially expected to employ 500 people, but future expansions could raise that number to 2,000.
