Woman ordered to prison for Social Security fraud

OXFORD, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Georgia woman has been ordered to report to federal prison in March after pleading guilty to illegally receiving Social Security payments she was not entitled to.

Minnie Carr Williams, 64, of Riverdale was accused of collecting nearly $141,000 in benefits intended for Elizabeth Strong, who lived in Clay County.

Prosecutors say the failed to notify the Social Security Administration of Strong's death in 1982 and continuing to receive her SSA benefits until October of 2008.

Williams was sentenced to six months in prison and ordered to make restitution.

She has been ordered to a Florida prison on March 31 to begin serving her sentence.
