JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) — Governor Phil Bryant has signed into law a measure to consolidate the West Point and Clay County school districts into one district.

The measure, approved by the Legislature earlier this month, calls for the county district to be dissolved into the city district no later than July 1, 2015.

A new school board would be made up of three members appointed by the West Point mayor and board of aldermen and two members elected by residents of Clay County who do not live in the city limits.

The board members will serve four-year terms.

The Clay County School District only has one school — West Clay Elementary.
