WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) -- Repair work is being done to a railroad crossing at a busy West Point industrial intersection.

Kansas City Southern Railrod crews are on the site for a few days to re-do the rail crossing at North Division Street and East Morrow Street.

The old crossing was dug out and is being replaced with new timbers.
The crossing is being elevated to make it more safe and user-friendly for cars and trucks.

The crossing should last at least 20 to 25 years before needing repairs again.

"This particular crossing about two years ago-there were other tracks there and we had removed them from the street crossing. Now that we're getting the current crossing repaired it should be very smooth and a nice crossing for all the residents," said Dwight Prisock, superintendent of West Point Water and Light Department.

The city will also re-do the asphalt to make the crossing smoother.
