WEST POINT, Miss. (WTVA) — A Clay County deputy sustained minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident that left his patrol vehicle engulfed in flames on Friday.

The sheriff's department said Deputy Everett Quinn's patrol car struck a cow on the road, causing his vehicle to spin out of control and crash into a utility pole.

The impact caused the gas tank to rupture and catch fire. The department said the flames left the vehicle at a total loss.

Sheriff Eddie Scott said Quinn was wearing his seat belt and the vehicle's airbags deployed, which investigators felt prevented him from sustaining serious injuries.

Scott said Quinn was transported by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Clay County where he was treated and released.
