Clay County man loses appeal of probation revocation

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Clay County man has lost an attempt to be released from jail.

Christopher Edwards, 30, pleaded guilty in April of 2006 to charges of statutory rape in Clay County Circuit Court and received a 20-year jail sentence. 

The judge agreed to suspended 15 years of the sentence and ordered Edwards to five-years supervised probation.

Following his release from prison, Edwards was ordered by to prison in 2010 to serve the remaining 15 years after his arrest on a domestic violence charge.

He appealed siting ineffective assistance of counsel, entering an involuntary plea and double jeopardy.

On Tuesday, the Mississippi Court of Appeals upheld the judge's ruling to send Edwards back to prison.
