WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) -- Clay County will borrow $230,000 to fund additional parking spaces near the courthouse and a new voting precinct.
Published reports say that the board of supervisors decided this week to issue general obligation bonds to borrow the money and repay the loan over five years.
Half of the money will used to purchase and clear two parcels land and pave a new lot behind the courthouse for 40-50 parking places.
With the rest of the money, the court will buy land once used as an old West Point School District bus station to build a voting precinct. The county has been renting Central School's gymnasium for voting.
Once the board of supervisors goes forward with its plans, bids will be solicited from banks to finance the note.
