JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Center for Public Policy is honoring high performing school districts with a poverly rate above 90 percent.

MCPP has named 20 schools as the winners of its 2012 Exceed Award.

Local schools on the list include West Clay Elementary School, West Oktibbeha Elementary School, Holly Springs High School, and Holly Springs Jr. High.

MCPP President Forest Thigpin says the award pays tribute to public schools who help low-income students perform well in the classroom.

He says the schools should serve as an example to all public schools in the state and prove poverty is not an excuse for low-performance.
