ACKERMAN, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Choctaw County Animal Shelter raised money for its facility and the seventy-plus animals that live there Saturday.
The privately funded shelter held a fundraiser at the Enon Presbyterian Church in Ackerman.
About a dozen local vendors were invited to sell their goods at the fundraiser and were allowed to keep the profits they made.
They just had to pay a booth rental fee.
Proceeds from the booth rentals, admission and food sales all went to the shelter.
The shelter's fundraising coordinator said the animals will appreciate the support.
"A shelter animal is going to love you more than any other animal that you could purchase from a breeder because it seems they can sense that you rescued them," Choctaw County Animal Shelter Fundraising Coordinator Angela Paine said.
Paine said the fundraiser not only helps to raise money for the shelter, but also helps to promote the businesses of the local vendors.
