HOULKA, Miss. (WTVA) -- The town of Houlka put itself on the map with its first Annual Cornbread Festival.
The festival took place in the Houlka Square Saturday.
Forty different types of cornbread were entered into the competition.
People came and tasted all of the breads to pick a winner.
Organizers said they planned the festival in just a month.
They expected the event to be small, but they say once word got out everyone wanted to be a part of the new tradition.
"I think people really wants this town to be something and to grow and they were just so excited that we were doing something," lead organizer Tina Pullen said.
The festival also included about 40 vendors, games and live music.
Pullen said the town is excited to plan for next year's Cornbread Festival.
