PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Tanglefoot Trail will be open for pedestrians and bikers starting Saturday.

Officials with Three Rivers Planning and Development District say the 44 and a half mile trail between Houston and New Albany will open 30 minutes before sunrise.

They say federal and state transportation officials have inspected the property and turned it over for public use.

The trail will be open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sundown each day.

Law enforcement will use golf carts to patrol the trail.

Motorized vehicles are prohibited on the trail, with the exception of law enforcement and emergency responders.

Officials say they will hold official ceremonies along the trail in October.
