State releases graduation, dropout rates

TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) -- State education leaders have released a compilation of graduation and dropout rates over the last five years.

The rates are broken down by district, and they include all public school systems across the state.

Overall, Mississippi has a 72.6 percent graduation rate over the last five years.

Here is the list of graduation rates of some of the local schools across north Mississippi:

Aberdeen        78 percent
Amory            79 percent
Booneville       88 percent
Houston          66.8 percent
Lee Co.           66.3 percent
New Albany     76 percent 
Okolona          51.7 percent
Pontotoc City   81.8 percent
Pontotoc Co.    80.8 percent
Prentiss Co.     79.3 percent
Tupelo             72.4 percent              
Union Co.        85.6 percent

Now, here is a breakdown of dropout rates for some of the local school districts across north Mississippi, with the state posting a 18.1 percent overall dropout rate.

Aberdeen         7.5 percent
Amory             13.2 percent
Booneville        9.5 percent
Houston           27.1 percent
Lee Co.            21.4 percent
New Albany      8 percent
Okolona           19.3 percent
Pontotoc City    10.4 percent
Pontotoc Co.     7.5 percent

Tupelo              21.5 percent
