CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) -- An Okolona man is dead after he was struck by another vehicle in the roadway.

Chickasaw County Coroner Andy Harmon said it happened at approximately 12:26 a.m. Sunday.

Harmon said Joshua Parker, 27, was believed to be riding an all-terrain vehicle which overturned in a ditch off Highway 47, not far from the Chickasaw/Clay County line.

Harmon said Parker then walked in the roadway and was struck by another vehicle.

It is being treated as a pedestrian-vehicle accident despite contradicting reports from other sources, he said.

"This was not a four-wheeler accident," Harmon said. "The four-wheeler accident didn't kill him."

Parker's body will be sent to Jackson for an autopsy.

Harmon said the crime lab results and findings from the Mississippi Highway Patrol's crash team investigation should yield more answers in the case.

The incident remains under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol and the Chickasaw County Coroner's Office.
