OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) - What better way to enjoy the cooler weather than to spend the day outdoors?
That's what residents of Okolona did on Saturday as the city held a festival they call Oktoberfest.
It's an opportunity for people in the community to gather and celebrate fall through a number of fun-filled activities.
Free activities for kids along with a pumpkin party and hayrides were some of the events that little ones and parents could enjoy.
The scarecrow and pumpkin painting contests were two of the biggest attractions.
Kids are able to win prizes and for those who helped plan the first Oktoberfest, they say they pulled it off without a hitch in a short period of time.
"We put this one together pretty quickly," adds Tanya Franks, Oktoberfest organizer. "[I am] excited about the turnout. We're excited about the response that is here today and we're very thankful that the rain held off and passed on through to give us a nice fall day today."
With the high turnout, organizers say plans for a second Oktoberfest are in the works.
