HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A section of the city of Houston has been designated as a historic district.

The National Park Service announced Friday they had approved the Houston Historic District during a meeting on May 14.

The district is bordered by Pontotoc Street, Depot Street, Madison Street and Monroe Street.

The designation is given to areas where buildings, objects or sites that reflect the significance of the district as a whole.

The designation prevents renovation work that could change the historical integrity.
