HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA)-- Some Houston High School students are hoping solar power will help lead them to a 14th consecutive victory at competition.

The Houston Solar Car Race Team will head out early Wednesday morning to compete in the Solar Car Challenge in Fort Worth Texas.

The group of 9 students have been working on the solar car throughout the school year and summer, and now they're hoping their hard work will pay off with a win!

This year, the car has new solar cells that the team is hoping will give them an extra edge in the competition.

"We are excited and ready to get there and also nervous because we have a great team to compete against us this year that we did not compete against last year. So, we are worried about them, but we are hoping we will be able to pull it off," said Co-Captain Allyson Taylor.

According to the team captain, there's only one other Mississippi team competing and of course, we'll keep you updated on the competition.
