HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) — The Houston chapter of the Boys and Girls Clubs will close for good on Thursday.
The decision was made by the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Mississippi on the recommendation of the advisory board for the Houston chapter.
A lack of financial support and declining attendance were cited as reasons for the decision.
The Houston Clubhouse opened in 2008 and has had average attendance as high as 100. As of late, average attendance is 35.
Employees were advised of the decision Tuesday.
Backers of the Houston chapter say there is still a need for financial help from the community to take care of expenses for the current month.
Supporters do not rule out reopening the chapter in Houston if finances and community support are there.
