HOUSTON, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Chickasaw County deputy was involved in a one-vehicle wreck Saturday when his patrol car hit a tree.
Chief Deputy Jim Myers says Deputy Barry Gladney and another passenger were driving along the Natchez Trace around 11 p.m. in a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria when the car crashed into a tree that had fallen across the road.
Myers says reports from locals indicate the tree had fallen within five minutes before Gladney reached the area.
Gladney and the unidentified passenger were taken to the North Mississippi Medical Center as a precaution and were released later.
Myers says the passenger was in the vehicle with Gladney to be transported to another person and taken home.
Gladney returned to work Sunday night.
The sheriff's department says it is waiting to hear from its insurance company on whether the vehicle will be considered totaled or not.
