KANDAHAR, AFGHANISTAN (WTVA) -- A Starvkille native has taken command of the 223rd Engineering Battalion.
U.S. Army Capt. Antwann Evans took command of the headquarters and headquarters battalion on Monday in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Evans assumed command from U.S. Army Maj. Gary Tolbert who spent the last 18 months commanding the company and leading them during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Members of the 223rd Engineer Battalion in West Point, the Forward Support Company of the 223rd Engineering Battalion in Aberdeen and the 288th Engineer Company in Houston departed in September of 2011 for a deployment overseas.
The unit will return to the U. S. next month.
