OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Okolona Board of Aldermen will appoint the new members of the Okolona Municipal Seperate Schools.
Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood issued an opinion earlier this year.
The district has been under state conservatorship, but recently was cleared to return to local control.
Hood's opinion says the three appointed board members will serve the remainder of the staggered terms set by the city.
The two appointees for the elected board positions will serve until the next election.
Hood says once the board is in place, they will begin the process of naming a new superintendent.
Members of the school board and the superintendent serving at the time of the state takeover will have to get clearance from the U. S. Department of Justice to seek the positions again.
