OKOLONA, Miss. (WTVA) -- An African American college with a rich history will now be remembered for a long time to come.

Okolona College had a marker dedicated by the site of its old location Saturday.

Many alumni came to pay homage to the school and to be apart of its history one last time.

"It actually closed in 65," Okolona Mayor Louise Floyd Cole said. "The city of Okolona, the community lost something. So the fact that we can have some of the memory preserved in the form of this historic marker is just fascinating to me."

The school was founded in 1902 as Okolona Industrial School.

In 1932, the school changed its name to Okolona College.
