VARDAMAN, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Vardaman couple got an unexpected wakeup call Tuesday morning when a pickup truck hit their house.

Police Chief Kenneth Scott tells WTVA.com the accident happened around 5:30 on Highway 8 East.

He says the driver of the pickup told authorities he fell asleep while driving down County Road 446.

Scott says the man says he didn't wake up until the truck hit the house.

The driver of the truck and the people inside the home were not seriously injured.

The kitchen area of the home suffered severe damage after the kitchen section was pushed off the foundation blocks.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is handling the investigation.
