CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WTVA) — Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy has confirmed one person involved in a shooting Thursday near Calhoun City has died.

Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an argument between Wayne Harris of Slate Springs and Chris McGonagill of Calhoun City.

Both were shot several times.

According to the sheriff, McGonagill was being flown to The Med in Memphis when the helicopter was diverted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford for emergency surgery.

McGonagill died during surgery.

His body is being taken to Jackson for an autopsy.

Harris was taken by ambulance to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where his condition is unknown at this time.

The case is being handled by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.

According to authorities Wayne Harris received a full pardon in 2012 from former Governor Haley Barbour for the sale of marijuana.
