PITTSBORO, Miss. (WTVA) -- Two men face charges after they lured a man from his home in Calhoun County with the intent to rob him.

Sheriff Greg Pollan says the incident unfolded around 12:30 a.m. Monday, June 4 at a home in the Bentley community.

Pollen says Marcus Denton, 23, of Derma went to the home because he knew the resident had a large sum of money.

Investigators say he knocked on the door and told the man he was having car trouble and needed help.

The man came out of the house and got in his truck, when investigators say Marcus D. "J. R." Jennings, Jr., 18, of Calhoun City ran out of the nearby woods with a gun.

Pollan says the man drove away, and Jennings fired three shots at his vehicle.

Denton was arrested the day of the incident and Jennings was arrested Monday.

Both are both charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery.

Jennings was a member of the Northeast Mississippi Community College football and men's basketball teams last season, but school officials say he has not been a member of either team since the end of the spring semester.
