CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WTVA) - The Mississippi National Guard's 858th Engineer Company, which is headquartered in Calhoun City, is headed to Afghanistan soon.
The military says 150 soldiers will be deployed to Afghanistan.
Nearly one third of those soldiers are based out of Okolona.
There will be a sendoff for the troops scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, at the Calhoun City town square.
The National Guard members will first go to Camp Shelby near Hattiesburg before heading to Afghanistan.
Authorities say while on deployment, the engineers will be responsible for conducting retrograde operations and base closures.
