PITTSBORO, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Pittsboro man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for hitting his uncle in the head with a shovel.

Sheriff Greg Pollan says Marty Clifton, 34, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault during a court hearing on Wednesday.

Pollan says Clifton was arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated assault on a vulnerable adult after an investigation into an incident at Clifton's resident.

The sheriff says Clifton's uncle, David Sanders, suffers from a mental disability and was living with Clifton.

Sanders was treated a local medical facility and released.
