VARDAMAN, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Calhoun County man faces charges after he is accused of attacking a softball coach following a game Thursday night.

Sheriff Greg Pollan says James Eric Tedder, 34, was upset his daughter was not allowed to start the game for Vardaman High School due to the fact she had been late to practices.

Pollan says following the game, Tedder approached the coach and the situation turned physical.

He says other people seperated the two men and Tedder left the park.

Pollan says witnesses told deputies looking into the incident that Tedder attacked the coach.

Deputies took Tedder into custody around 10:30 Thursday night and charged him with simple assault on a school official.

Simple assault on a school official is a felony under Mississippi State Law.

The investigation is continuing.

Tedder is currently free on bond.
