PITTSBORO, Miss. (WTVA) — Calhoun County has a new deputy, and he's ready for action.

Aquiles is the first K-9 officer to serve with the sheriff's department.

Deputy Kenneth White has been working with the dog for weeks in preparation for the animal's first day on the job.

White says donations covered the purchase cost and the cost of training. That can run between $8,000 and $10,000.

"Very excited," White said. "This is my first dog that I've ever worked with. He's going to be a very good addition to the department."

Aquiles is trained in narcotics, tracking and criminal apprehension.
