CALHOUN CITY, Miss. (WTVA) — According to Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan, one of the men involved in a deadly shooting Thursday night received a full pardon in 2012 from former Governor Haley Barbour for the sale of marijuana.
Authorities say the shooting stemmed from an argument between Wayne Harris of Slate Springs and Chris McGonagill of Calhoun City.
Wayne Therman Harris was pardoned before then Governor Barbour left office.
Harris is being treated at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, where his condition is unknown.
Harris and McGonagill were both shot several times near Calhoun City.
Lafayette County Coroner Rocky Kennedy has confirmed McGonagill died during surgery at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford.
His body has been taken to Jackson for an autopsy.
The case is being handled by the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department.
