Two inmates with north Miss. ties escape MDOC facility

JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Corrections says two inmates with north Mississippi ties have escaped from the Forrest County Community Work Center in Hattiesburg.

Authorities are searching for James Robert Martin, 22, and David Bass, 26, who left the facility at approximately 5 p.m. Saturday.

Martin was behind bars for a grand larceny conviction out of Monroe County, while Bass was serving a seven-year sentence on multiple burglary counts out of Lee County.

Officials with MDOC say both inmates were last seen wearing state-issued green and white striped pants and white MDOC shirts with "MDOC Convict" printed on the back.

Martin is described as being 5'9", 150 lbs., with blonde hair and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos: a six-point star on his lower right arm and a cross on his left lower leg.

Bass is described as being 5'9", 180 lbs., with balding blonde hair and blue eyes. He has multiple tattoos on both lower arms.

Authorities are asking anybody with information on these individuals' whereabouts are asked to contact local law enforcement or MDOC at (662) 745-6611.
