PONTOTOC, Miss. (WTVA) -- Investigators say the suspicious letter containing a powdery substance found at a local business is not hazardous and is not harmful.

Police Chief Larry Poole tells WTVA's Tyler Hill officers were called to Pool Specialist on West Oxford Street shortly after 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Chief Poole says the owner opened the package, noticed the powder and called police.

He says the owner was transferred to the hospital for observation after being exposed to the powder, while two police officer were decontaminated on the scene.

A hazardous material unit was called in to secure the business, and Poole says U. S. Postal Service inspectors from Memphis were called to the scene to collect the package.

Poole says his department has received several calls about people receiving suspicious packages and letters for the past 18 months.

He says this is the first time anyone of them contained a powdery substance.
