TUPELO, Miss. (WTVA) - First through 8th grade students are on stage at Tupelo Community Theatre learning about all aspects of a live production.

It's TCT's annual theatre camp.

"Fairy Tales in the City" is the theme for the week.

From performing on stage to working behind the scenes creating the set, the young people say every day is a new adventure.

Leigh Michael of Tupelo said, "It's been fun. We've learned all about fairy tales and stuff about the big city."

Aidan Wilson of Tupelo said, "Because we're doing stuff like music and all that kind of stuff."

The audience only sees the performance on stage, but camp directors want the young people to know how much work goes into a live production.

Arts and Crafts Director Marianna Coffey said, "We talk about sets. I show them the space and what we're doing. Tomorrow we'll take tours upstairs where we take out costume closet and prop closet."

It's a chance, organizers say, to get the students some real-life experiences all with the thrills a camp like this one offers.

Camp Director Suzanne Oakely said, "Theatre is an excellent opportunity for students to learn collaboration skills. We also see natural leaders pop out quickly in these classes. It's also an opportunity for students to develop public speaking skills."

The campers will show off what they've learned this week with a performance both Friday morning and Friday afternoon.
