CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) - From the outside and from the inside you'd never know it was once the Alcorn County Jail.

The building is now the Board of Supervisors Office Complex.

Monday morning supervisors held a dedication ceremony there along with their regular meeting.

The building includes space for the supervisors, the purchasing department and financial offices that comes to about 3,000 square feet.

Supervisor Lowell Hinton said, "We'll be having our meetings here. It's ADA approved now where handicapped people can get in. In our old facility we didn't have that ability. We were upstairs and it was hard for people to get up there."

Officials say another benefit to this building is the fact there's more parking and also easy access.

FEMA money paid for most of the more than $80,000 project after the county received aid due to major flooding there a few years back.

Residents were on hand to get a look inside and say they're glad the county found a use for the old jail after it moved into a new justice complex a few years ago.

Resident Faye Barr said, "I hate to see good buildings just fall down. I love to see them renovated."

Additional space where the jail once was remains.

Supervisors kept part of the history of the building with visual reminders of what it once housed.

Supervisor Dal Nelms said, "We did keep the jail cells in tact for anyone who wants to view them such as kids groups or church organizations. We think that's an interesting part of the building. It's original use was a jail facility."

The jail was used starting in the early 1970's.

Supervisors say they plan on being there for many years to come.
