CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) -- A Corinth man has undergone surgery to repair injuries suffered during an altercation with another man.
Corinth police says Frederick Patterson, 48, is accused of shooting Randy Young of Senatobia Wednesday night.
Captain Ralph Dance says the men were among several people at a gathering on Pierce Street in the Coombs Court Apartments.
Patterson was apparently talking to Young's girlfriend, when Young come up to them and told her they needed to leave.
Dance says Patterson followed them out of the apartment, became upset and pulled a gun and threatened to shoot them.
He says Young charged Patterson and during the insuing scuffle, Patterson shot Young in the back and chest.
Despite being wounded, Dance says Young was still able to beat Patterson in the face, causing injuries that lead to him needing surgery on Friday.
Dance says Patterson will be charged with attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a controlled substance.
He also is currently on probation from the Mississippi Department of Corrections.
