JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) -- The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has proposed a $15,000 fine over the operations at the Alcorn County rubbish site.

An MDEQ complaint dated June of 2012 says the board of supervisors failed to prevent disposal of unauthorized waste at the facility on Farmington Road.

The complaint also says they failed to maintain the disposal to as small an area as possible, failed to maintain required cover, failed to have a trained spotter onsite to inspect loads and failed to report a fire at the site.

A followup inspection by MDEQ in January showed the county was once again in compliance.

The county agreed to pay a $15,000 fine for the violations.

An MDEQ spokesperson says both groups must sign off on the agreement before it becomes final.
