CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) - Firefighters with the Corinth Fire Department were at Station 4 Thursday for a day of testing.
The mandatory testing was on their hoses.
The annual hose test is required to make sure the hoses are still in compliance and that when they charge, they will maintain the pressure that it's rated by the National Fire Protection Association.
The Corinth Fire Department uses rubber jacket and cotton hoses which come in different sizes.
The testing is done once a year as firefighters look for wear and tear on hoses.
"This hose test that we're doing makes sure our equipment is prepared, and also, it gives us a little time to prepare ourselves to do a little more training with the hose," adds Jason Hilliard, a training officer. "We get to put our hands on the hose again, lace it back up on the pumpers and also pull it off the pumpers."
If firefighters do run across a hose that does not pass the test, they roll it up backwards, and it is no longer in service until it can be repaired and tested again.
