RIENZI, Miss. (WTVA) -- Volunteer firefighters from departments in Prentiss and Alcorn County are on the scene of a church fire in the Danville community.

Alcorn County Fire Coordinator Ricky Gibens tells WTVA.com the fire started in the attic of the fellowship hall of the Danville Baptish Church around 3:30 Friday afternoon.

He says firefighters responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire to the fellowship hall.

He says the building suffered light to moderate damage, but they are still working to put out hot spots and clear smoke from the building.

Gibens says there is no damage to the sanctuary.

The church's paster says some members had left the building a few minutes before the fire was reported.

He says the building will be gutted, but says the exterior appears to be fine.

The cause of the fire has not been determined.

WTVA News has a crew in route to the scene and will have more details as they become available.
