CORINTH, Miss. (AP) -- The city of Corinth will raise the starting pay for new city workers.

The Daily Corinthian reports the Board of Mayor and Aldermen has approved a 5 percent increase for the beginning pay of jobs such as police officer, firefighter, tax clerk and street department laborer.

New starting pay rates for sewer department workers were implemented last year.

The new pay for a beginning police officer increases from $11.12 to $11.68 hourly. A beginning firefighter's hourly rate rises from $7.49 to $7.86 per hour.
