CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) -- Corinth police are investigating the death of a man who was hit by a train Monday night in the city.

Capt. Ralph Dance says they were called to the scene near Johns and Proper Streets around 6:30 p.m.

He says the conductor contacted E911 about a man laying on the tracks, but there was not enough room for the train to stop before it hit him.

Dance identified the man as James Michael Becht, 38, of Mathis Road in Corinth.

He says Becht had a history of medical problems, but they are still not sure why he was on the tracks.

Dance says foul play was not a factor in his death.

A toxicology study has been ordered, but Dance says they will not conduct an autopsy.
