CORINTH, Miss. (WTVA) -- Corinth authorities say a city ordinance prohibiting the carry of firearms into city parks and other public property has been changed.
Chief Investigator Ralph Dance says the change comes after the city questioned the authority of the ordinance after new laws were passed allowing open carry in Mississippi.
According to Attorney General Jim Hood, the state laws supersede the city ordinance.
Those who carry firearms are still prohibited from bringing them into any police, sheriff or highway department, detention facility or jail and court when it is in session, as mentioned in state law.
Dance says the police department does not anticipate any trouble from the change.
