COLUMBUS, Miss. (WTVA) - Police are searching for a Columbus man as a person-of-interest in connection to a motel homicide.

Police identify the person as Johnathan Lee Majors II.

The shooting happened at the Motel 6 near Highway 82 and Highway 45. Word of the homicide came on the Columbus Police Department's Twitter account just after 1 a.m. Friday.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identifies the victim as 27-year-old Michael Garth. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:53 a.m. An autopsy will be performed.

The investigation is in its initial phase, but it appears Garth was killed by someone he knew.
