HAMILTON, Miss. (WTVA) - The Monroe County Sheriff's Department participated in an extensive drug roundup Wednesday.

Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell had 41 arrest warrants for drug dealers in the county.

So, he started Wednesday afternoon on a drug roundup to bring them all in.

Cantrell says the drug roundup is the result of an investigation that has been going on in the county for the past three months.

He says the county's narcotics team has evidence of 41 drug buys with drug dealers within the county.

"This has been an ongoing investigation for about two and a half or three months. Our narcotics team has put together 41 buys from drug dealers in Monroe County to the drug dealer. We're going to hunt you down, and we're going to put you in jail. You're going to have to make proper bond to get out, and we're going to put you in the penitentiary," Cantrell replied.

Cantrell says that the drug buys took place in several places across the county. He calls it an ongoing effort to reduce drug trafficking in the county.
