Man found dead in Lafayette County

Lafayette County officers are investigating a homicide.

LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) - Lafayette County officers are investigating a homicide.

According to Lafayette County Investigator Alan Wilburn, the scene is on County Road 104.

He says the sheriff's department received a call sometime near 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Responding officers found a man dead, who appears to have been shot.

He says the weapon used in the case was a "high-powered rifle" and shell casings were found at the scene. All evidence has been sent to the crime lab.


No arrests have been made at this time. Wilburn says there is no person-of-interest at this time.

Up to a $5,000 reward is being offered through Crime Stoppers for information leading to an arrest.
