Firefighters contain oil fire in Monroe County

The fire happened on Flower Farm Road near Hamilton in Monroe County.

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WTVA) – Firefighters were able to contain an oil fire in southern Monroe County.

The fire happened on Flower Farm Road near Hamilton in Monroe County.

According to Monroe County Fire Coordinator Terry Tucker, the fire started sometime near 8:15 a.m.

It appears a tire blew out on a nearby piece of equipment and blew into a crude oil open top storage tank.

It took firefighters about three hours to put it out.

Hamilton firefighters are continuing to monitor the situation.

There is no danger to the public.
