KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WTVA) – The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has requested power providers in the Tennessee Valley to ask their consumers to reduce their use of electricity as much as possible until further notice.
Because of the extreme cold weather, this has caused a critical power supply situation. Voluntary reduction in power is needed to help ensure a continued supply of power to essential services throughout the Tennessee Valley.
Here are some tips to help conserve energy:
- Postpone using electric appliances such as dishwashers, dryers and cooking equipment.
- Reduce the use of heating by adjusting thermostats as low as possible. Dress Warmly.
- Turn off non-essential lights, appliances and other electrical equipment.
"Below normal temps drove power demand to its highest level since 2015, nearly 32,000 megawatts," TVA tweeted.
