Fill-In Anchor
eleonard@wtva.com
Emily Leonard joined the WTVA team in May 2011. She comes to WTVA from Lubbock, Texas, where she worked as a morning news anchor and reporter for six years at KAMC-TV.
Emily graduated summa cum laude from Texas Tech University with a degree in Telecommunications. In her career, Emily has covered everything from high-profile murder investigations to interviewing a man who caught a fish with human-like teeth.
But the most memorable story she has had the privilege of sharing is the story of the Brown family from Wellman, Texas, who lost their daughter Alex in a texting and driving accident. Their efforts to minister to other teens about the dangers of texting and driving caught the attention of ABC's
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
. Emily had the opportunity to not only watch a deserving family receive a home, but also to interview designer Leigh Anne Tuohy, actress Emma Roberts, and host Ty Pennington.
In addition to fill-in anchoring, Emily is also the Community Relations & Promotions Director. WTVA strives to serve the community, and Emily helps WTVA accomplish that goal through spearheading and helping with several events. Some of those events include the Food For Families Food drive, the Jefferson Awards For Public Service, the United Way Back To School Resource Fair, Regional Rehabilitation Center's Celebration of Hope telethon, and many others.
In her spare time, Emily loves to dance (tap, jazz, and ballet), cook, hike, travel, and cheer on her beloved Texas Tech Red Raiders. She also enjoys spending time with her two cats and her husband, WTVA Chief Meteorologist Matt Laubhan—yes, she's married to the weatherman!
